Do you have fond memories of playing the 2005 version of Star Wars: Battlefront 2? Do you wish with every fiber of your being that it had official online servers again? Well then, good news: your wish just came true, somehow.
On both Steam and GOG, the PC version of the original Battlefront 2 has been updated with 64-player online multiplayer support and crossplay, so that you can battle or just front (if you’re not good at battling but want people to believe you are) with friends on either platform.
While Disney, the game’s current publisher, didn’t say precisely why it decided to do this, odds are good that it’s a promotional thing for Star Wars: Battlefront II, EA’s new-gen Battlefront game that’s coming out next month and having a beta this week. It’s a pretty neat promotional thing, though, given how much people adore the first Battlefront 2, which is regarded by some as the best multiplayer Star Wars ever.
Battlefront 2's return, however, has so far been less a Return of the Jedi triumph and more an Empire Strikes Back series of unfortunate events. As of now, most players are complaining that they can’t actually connect to the new multiplayer servers, likely because they’re swamped. This makes sense given that, in the past 24 hours, the game has jumped from having a few hundred concurrent players to thousands.

It’s also a bit darkly humorous that Disney decided to resurrect this game ahead of EA’s Battlefront II, seeing as it’s given rise to a renewed chorus of chants about how much more people liked the first two Battlefront games than EA and DICE’s reboot. Here, for instance, is the current top review on the Steam version of Battlefront 2:

Savage. I thought EA’s first Battlefront was fine, but I’d be hard-pressed to tell you a single memorable moment from my time with it. Also, it got old fast. Hopefully the new one is better! In the meantime, we’ve got the old-old one. If it starts working.

All collectible locationsSearch the indicated locations to find all 23 collectible in the campaign and get 175 crafting parts for Multiplayer mode (25 crafting parts per mission). You can collect the crafting parts by going to the Career screen at the main menu. In the campaign milestones, press Y to get the crafting parts. There is one milestone per mission collectibles. None of them are missable. You can get them at any time using mission select. After finding a collectible, it is instantly saved. You do not have to collect them again if you die or quit out to the main menu after collecting them. Not all missions have collectibles. Only 7 contain collectibles out of the 13 missions. They are all found on your path to the main objectives. Obtaining all collectibles is the quickest way to earn crafting parts. You need them to craft 'Star Cards' in Multiplayer mode, which are basically your perks/skills and normally are very time consuming to obtain. This gives you a quicker start in Multiplayer. You can craft Star Cards at the 'Collection' screen of the main menu by selecting a class and card you want to craft.
Easy 'Balance Point' achievementAfter a cutscene around the middle of Mission 2: The Battle Of Endor (after completing the main objectives in the starting are), you will see some enemies in front of a bunker. Inside the bunker is the 'Barrage' in a weapon box. It looks like a grenade launcher. Grab it and press D-pad Left to equip it. Then, proceed to the next main objective (kill a bunch of enemies in the woods). There will be a lot of enemies spawning close together. It is easy to kill five of them with one hit. However, you only need to kill five enemies with three shots to get the 'Balance Point' achievement. The Barrage has three shots. Restart the checkpoint to try again if it fails.
Easy 'Dark Forces' achievementIn Mission 1: The Cleaner, after getting the assault rifle, you will have to hold off enemies while your robot opens a door. You will get a tutorial prompt about door panels at this point. Five enemies will spawn really close together in this area. They are coming down the stairs. Once they stop walking, use the drone by pressing Y to shock them and get the 'Dark Forces' achievement. Restart the checkpoint to try again if it fails. The droid can be used as soon as the bar at the bottom of the screen is fully charged.
Besides the obvious utility function, this addition also makes it easier to have a pure magic build at earlier levels - even before you have tons of magicka available. Best armor mods for skyrim special edition. But that's just the beginning. The main draw of this mod is the brewstation, letting you brew drinks in addition to cooking the standard food options, while the number of food recipes is also bumped up significantly and a few ingredients have been added in as well.If you've already crafted every type of food, try installing this Special Edition mod and keep your craft addiction going strong! Mod: Cooking, Brewing, and Alchemy OverhaulAn expansion to Skyrim's base crafting system, this nifty mod puts cooking pots and alchemy stations in every inn so you don't have to go hunting for them in any given settlement.
Easy 'Master Of Deception' achievementThis can be done during the third enemy encounter in Mission 5: The Storm. There will be one enemy sniper in the area (Scout Trooper). Scout Troopers carry a sniper rifle and have darker armor than other enemies. You must kill the sniper with a stealth melee attack from behind. This does not work if the enemies have noticed you. Just watch where the sniper goes and hide behind cover until he stops walking. Then, sneak up to him and perform a stealth kill (click Right Analog-stick) to get the 'Master Of Deception' achievement.
Easy 'X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter' achievementAt the start of Mission 11: The Battle Of Jakku, you will be flying an X-Wing. There are lots of TIE Fighters flying in the sky. Simply shoot down eight of them to get the 'X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter' achievement.

The best part about classic games that gives them longevity beyond their original release are player created mods that make the game more fun or more ridiculous. The ingenuity of the modding community always finds ways to improve the games so which games are keeping the original Battlefront IIalive a decade after release?
Let's have a look.
Star Wars Battlefront Conversion Pack
Easily one of the largest mods for the game, the conversion pack adds 22 new maps, new clone legions, and most impressively 50 new heroes. Last patched in 2009, there are still comments on the pack as late as two weeks ago. This mod truly improves the amount of variability in the game and gives players more options than they may know what to do with (including a full set of Knights of the Old Republic assets). Eat your heart of Star Wars Battlefront.

Dark Times II: Rising Son
The only rival to the conversion pack will be this mod, which gamers will have to decide which they want installed over the other. Rising Son offers 16 new planets that include the expanded universe and update the lightsaber combat system to include a variety of attacks. The mod also includes its' own galactic conquest based mode that follows the story of Luke Skywalker and a rebel commando squad. This parallels the 501st main story of the game in a new take that could be it's own game if expanded upon.

Mass Effect: Unification
Yes, you read that right. If you've ever played a Star Wars game and thought, 'Wait, this isn't BioWare,' then this mod has the fix for you. The unification mod switches everything, from the Rebels becoming the Systems Alliance to heroes added like Samara. The sheer attention to basically rebuild the game in some aspects into a Mass Effect game would astound BioWare themselves. If they're ever looking for new employees, there's have a link below.

Tactical Enhanced Mod
If the game had become too easy, this mod makes accuracy more essential and the run and gun offense obsolete. The tactical enhanced mod makes the difficulty of the base game much harder while also making blasters far more potent. These changes make for game play that requires careful cover and precision, and if you try to shoot and move you might as well not shoot at all.

Battlefront Evolved
While the mod doesn't add any assets to the game, it instead re-textures all of the units and vehicles in the base game. With updated graphics, it makes the game look much younger than it actually is, and the improvements are very clear. For as well as other mods do in adding assets to the game, this one does an excellent job in re-texturing the actual game into one that could rival the current Battlefront game.

TORfront
This mod ties in the Old Republic by basing itself off of SWTOR, adding the online games skins, troopers, and even some planets. The mod was last updated in 2016 and is another example of the mods that are pushing the longevity of the original game. The mod also offers various re-modeling of current assets to create the feel of an FPS Old Republic game.
----
An important note to all of these mods is the active community around them that are bolstering the mods but the game itself. Each mod has comments and downloads from 2017, and most that are pending approval still. The original Battlefront IIis here to stay, and as the mods continue to improve it's hard to see an end for this one -- and we couldn't be happier.
